Fossil Free WSU
ESA Subcommittee Meeting Minutes, March 1, 2022
Present: Mason Burns, Ryan Culp, Guthrie Kuester, Simon Smith, Bill Engels
- Review, follow-up of the minutes from February 15, 2022, meeting
The WSU Foundation CEO Mike Connell replied on March 4th. He indicated that the Foundation Investment Committee met on February 18th and developed a rough outline of a plan for ESG investing that included addressing fossil fuel investments. He said that President Schulz’s office will lead on the project and gave the steps they would follow for developing ESG investing guidelines for the Board of Regents and Foundation’s Board of Directors’ approval.
Mason said that the student who interviewed him and Stevie for the video would share the video with him when done.
The group discussed the tabling activity for the student petition at the CUB the week before. Since the students’ response wasn’t as encouraging for the student members of Fossil Free WSU as it was for Simon and Bill, it was decided to wait until seeing the results of the email with the petition sent to students and to the posters to be put up in the resident halls before scheduling another tabling event. The idea of providing snacks as an incentive was mentioned.
- New actions
Ryan said he had contacted WSU housing about putting up posters in the resident halls and was told they could display 142 of them in the halls. Bill said he would send Stevie a draft of the poster for reviewing before sending to Ryan.
Bill said he would share with Stevie suggestions for topics and questions for his Zoom meeting with Regent Dickenson on March 8th.
Bill indicated the next Board of Regents meeting would be on Friday of the following week. He and Simon said they would give a public comment.
The idea of holding a peaceful march in April was discussed. It could be held one day during Earth Week, April 17-33. We might invite other ESA members and students from other WSU organizations to participate. The group planned to continue discussing this at subsequent meetings.
Next meeting day and time: Tuesday, March 22, 5:30-6 pm.
